Bald Eagle Branch September 2024 Wildlife Photos

September was the month for our latest addition of wildlife in Slabs Lake City Events. Some call them otters, other call them beavers but we are just happy to see the beautiful wildlife creatures. It’s a fun place to eat and visit as children and adults grab the binoculars for a close up view of the beaver (or Otters) swimming on Bald Eagle Branch. Nature’s wildlife doesn’t always showing off, but sometimes the beaver aka Otters jump and swim for those eating at Slabs back windows. The breathtaking view of all the wildlife is spectacular. Slabs Lake City Events during May: The Lake City Class of 1958 had their class reunion on May 20th. We had a blast together! Many thanks for the laughter and fun times.

We had such a good time with the Lake City High School Class of 1963. It was a fun filled afternoon of celebrating good times together. Thank you for the beautiful smiles and special times we all shared together.

Hand Feed Wild Ducks Touching Nature Feeding Wild Animals

We’ve been having a fun time hand feeding the wild duck and wildlife. Even touching some of the wild animals at Slabs Lake City Events this month. Watch as both adults and children hand feed wild ducks as they play and feed both the ducks and geese. Some lucky adults and kids actually touch the wild ducks and geese on Bald Eagle Branch. We love nature.

Enjoy a delicious dinner at Slabs BBQ Restaurant and a nature show too! Watch families hand feed wild ducks and geese and play outside as your eat delicious beef brisket, bbq ribs and fresh homemade desserts. Laugh as you watch the show and relax and unwind a little more. Fun times at Slabs Thursday and Friday 5-9PM and Saturday 11AM-9PM. It’s fun to hand feed wild ducks and geese so come give it a try.

Brian and I are so thankful for your comments on google and for the 5 star ratings. “This is without a doubt the best beef brisket that I have had the chance to eat. Their pulled pork is amazing, their ribs are delicious and the bark that they produce on their meat is devine. It is possibly the best barbeque that I have ever eaten. This is a MUST visit location. The owners, staff and food is all top shelf. Great people that make great food. I can’t speak highly enough of this wonderful restaurant.”

Jessica Kast wrote this review January 2021. The absolute best BBQ I’ve ever eaten, and the staff is remarkably friendly. As far as cost goes it’s very inexpensive. The Bo Jr has brisket, half a rack of ribs, half a pound of pulled pork, sausage,one side for $29.99. So, if you went to Slabs for nothing other than a glass of water, you would have left having nothing less than an extraordinary time. My first visit was tonight and let me tell you I already feel like a regular! What more could you want from a restaurant that makes you feel like your having a family dinner and Mom and Dad just took the BBQ off! I promise you will not regret it!

A Special Thanks from Slabs

Thank you for your prayers, support, and love. But, we can’t thank you enough for all your sacrifices helping us get started. DHEC Gives Slabs an A

Great news! Slabs is much closer to opening our kitchen to the public. DHEC says we are 90% ready just a few more things to do before we can serve beef brisket, ribs, pulled pork and more. We’re praying we can be ready to open in 3-4 weeks. We can’t tell you how thankful we are for all who have supported us and spread the word about the vaious hours we are open.

Since we are here daily this month we have cookies available 9:30-5PM so stop by and tour the restaurant, watch the ducks play and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. You are welcome anytime, bring the children we are kid friendly. They will enjoy hand feeding wild ducks. We love you Lake City and all the surrounding areas. So many have driven each week from Florence, Hartsville, Coward, Marion, and further and we are grateful. We can’t wait to see you and welcome you to Slabs.

Lake City Events June 2020

It’s been a very busy last few months since we’ve updated Lake City Events, but we are nearing the final sign off on our kitchen. Next step in documenting Lake City Events is, DHEC! This may take three weeks or more to accomplish depending upon when they can come and what they want us to do. So, we will keep you posted, here and on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Come see us and hand feed wild ducks and geese.

Some new counting videos to help children learn to count by baby animals, ducks, gosslings (baby geese). Moreover, remember George, the mallard duck with a limp? However, you can you see George the duck as standing in this video, watching the geese.

Art Gallery has many new pieces of Art

Another Lake City Event this month is viewing of several commissioned art pieces available to view on display at Slabs Art Gallery right now. Artist Fleetwood Covington can take any of your photos, and bring them to life. Once you see his artistic talent you will never look at art the same way again. To have a piece commissioned stop by Slabs and talk with us. These are one of the best gift ideas for dad, and lovely present for mom too.

One of a Kind Art at Slabs

At Slabs Art Gallery in Lake City this month we’re featuring Fleetwood Covington’s commissioned artwork “Jack and his best friend Greg”. This art on tin is so breathtaking we’ve seen people with tears in their eyes just taking it in. This commissioned art can be viewed at Slabs along with a picture of Barbara’s Grandmother. Both commissioned pieces were completed by Fleetwood Covington and are pieces of art that will be cherished for generations to come. Thank you Fleetwood for allowing people in Lake City South Carolina to view your Art on Tin.

It all started with the Baby Ducks

We all know that kids need the outdoors and we can to learn from nature. So, we are making many funny videos to share with your family so your children can learn and smile together. As a family you can share these happy times together. Watch wild baby ducks chirp, peep, and waddle as you smile and laugh, so funny! Kids will watch this movie again and again. Here are some free tips on how to relax with nature.

Teach kids to count by baby duck

Help your kids tell their story to us on youtube. It will be a good time teaching them numbers of each wild baby duck they can count while watching the movie. It will be a fun way to improve their math skills. As each duck swims against the current they can root for them and count each one. Learning will be such fun! Have them write the number 1 through 8 on paper. Then count each duck as they reach the safety. Eventually you will have all 8 wild baby ducks. Fun with learning at Slabs on Bald Eagle Branch.

Learn to spell with baby ducks

Teach your child how to spell duck as they hear the baby ducks sounds they can mimic the sounds as the ducks squeak and mom quacks. It’s fun to grow up with children. There’s a kid in each of us. So, how do you spell duck? We start out slow drawing each letter, showing picture of the letter it stands for, sounding out the letter, and giving lots of praise, all the while having fun.

Simple steps to learn to read duck

First of all, ask your child to draw the letter d. If they don’t know how hold the pencil with them to teach them. Next ask them “What starts with letter D”? Next, if they don’t know give them example. Tell them “Another sound using first letter D is duck”. Repeat d is for dog, d is for daddy, d is a fun letter.

Easy steps

Next, teach the child to draw the letter u, and again first drawing the u together, then sound it out using the letter u for umbrella. Now either draw an umbrella or look one up. Furthermore, draw the letter c, and sound out the letter c, and sound out the animals that start with c (like cat, and cow). Because once the child learns to associate sounds with letters they are learning to read.

Your child will always cherish this special time learning to read together – you will thank me later

Lastly, draw the letter k, then sound out letter k for kite and either draw kite or look one up to purchase online for fun outside later. As a result, you have spelled duck out slowly. Go over this once again and then have the child draw the letters alone and teach you. Soon your child will be reading to you. Slow and steady repetition will teach children to read. I taught two of my children to read and really love to help others. Children never forget who taught them to read. Even if they are in school you can help each day make it fun. A little effort goes a long way – let the kid inside you out!

Hand Feeding Wild Ducks

We started about two weeks ago trying to hand feed wild ducks, getting the wild ducks to come closer and closer. Now you can watch our family and kids’ movies as we hand feed wild ducks corn right out of our palm. The wild mallard ducks eat from the palm of our hands quacking all the while as they enjoy feeding time and our wetlands. It’s beautiful to watch mallards, and the wild ducks in their natural setting. Yet, sometimes they walk right up to us to be fed. We love to hand feed wild ducks at Slabs, and we love the bald eagle visitors we see pretty often too.

Bald Eagle is Fishing at Bald Eagle Branch

There is a reason the water is called Bald Eagle Branch. The eagles live in our 26 acre wetlands and come to the water fishing. Soaring in to get their catch of the day. Watch as the bald eagle catches the fish! It’s fast but you can slow the speed on youtube to get full view of the bald eagle fishing with its big talons. Nice family videos to teach children about eagle talons, watch bald eagle spread wings and walk around. Adults and kids and the entire family will enjoy Slabs Bald Eagle Branch. Bald Eagle has Landed at Slabs

Another Lake City event occurred a few days ago when a beautiful bald eagle soared overhead and landed at Slabs right beside the Bald Eagle Branch. We had to stop working to watch this amazing creature. Our national bird the bald eagle is such a breathtaking large bird. What a beautiful animal! We were mesmerized and watched the eagle walk around the lake and then spread those huge eagle wings for flight.

March 2020

March Lake City Events show progress without as much rain. We’re enjoying nature every chance we get hearing the ducks quack and birds chirp. Our fav mallard duck George comes to visit with just a call of his name. Look at the tin roof and great construction we’ve been blessed with. God is really blessing our project and our business. Thanks to everyone for the kindness, prayers and support.

February 2020

February Lake City Events show big progress. Wow a lot has happened in the last four months but then the rain came but thankfully we had the rood on and can work inside more. Look at Slabs bbq kitchen and smokehouse now! Since the smokehouse is open to allow the smell of fresh quality meats (lots of beef brisket) to escape into the air your taste buds will sizzle over yummy aroma of smoked meats. Yummy thinking of it makes my taste buds and stomach ready to eat. We are excited about the great progress and we can see the end in sight. God has been blessing us and we want to give Him praise.

Thank You From the Bottom of our Hearts

Many thanks to the prayers of friends, family, and their support too. However, a town like Lake City is one in a million! But, we couldn’t have made it this far without all the support of our town, and the surrounding area. Many friends drive quite a distance to visit Slabs once or twice a month and take home goodies for their family and friends (you know who you are and we love you). Each of you hold a very special place in our hearts. We love you!

October 2019

In October on Slabs Lake City Events, we update you on our engineer Ken Hayes, and how has been spectacular in all that he’s done. We can always count on him. Now he’s been working with the City of Lake City SC since July 25th but after the building received partial approval from City Building Code Office in Kingstree, we were asked by the City of Lake City to put many asphalt parking spaces for parking. Since this would change the entire ecological atmosphere of Slabs and wouldn’t be a healthy environment for the wildlife around we requested a meeting with the Building Code/Zoning Board.

Slabs Parking Lot Additional Handicap Slot

On October 14th we received a unanimous vote to allow us to keep our parking with the addition of one handicap slot. Hooray! Prayers were answered. God is so good! So, now, we are working to get the building contractor and permit to allow us to break ground ASAP. More to come soon with updates on when we will start serving slow and low cooked on wood brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chicken and so much more.

July 2019

July 8th we received our building plans and handed them over to our Engineer Ken Hayes who completed them in record time. He handed them over to us and we were able to submit them to the City of Lake City on July 25th. So thankful, we are making big progress now. So, once we get the go ahead we will be breaking ground for our kitchen. And then, once it’s complete we can start serving slow and low cooked on wood brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chicken and so much more.

June Lake City Event was the Cookie Photo Contest Winner Announcement. Since, each and every photo submitted for Slabs Chocolate Chip Cookie Contest was a winner in my heart. I’m sure you would have a tough time picking ten or twelve but imagine picking three! I wish I could have given everyone that entered a prize!

May Lake City Events the Cookie Contest Continues. Therefore, all the entries for the cooking contest are in and the winners will be announced early June. But, each picture was a winner in my opinion and I’m sure you will agree. However, it was a very hard decision to pick 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

April 2019

Our April Lake City Event was the cookie contest, and it was extended until May 31st! There was so much excitement on the chocolate chip cookies we had to extend the date of the contest. Moreover, we love Lake City and the wonderful people who live here and in surrounding areas. The people here have made me feel so welcome and loved. Lake City is a very special place to call home. So, follow the 1935 Dodge to Slabs!

Slabs moved to 438 West Main Street Lake City SC on January 10th. Our architect Thomas Lee came over the day we moved into our property and started work on the building plans. This is the first huge step in moving forward and we are so excited to begin this venture. Thank you Lake City for your support, kindness, and prayers. Also, we want you to visit our Art Gallery soon and see works by Fleetwood Covington.

Slabs Wood Gallery Open Soon

The fun is starting as we are renovating the building getting ready to open our new Slabs Wood Gallery. We plan to open before the month is over. To celebrate our opening we are having a chocolate chip cookie photo contest. This contest runs throughout the month of February 2019.
